This is how the variable portion of your Qyren invoice — the “lift fee” — is calculated. It’s designed to be transparent: you can reproduce the number from data you have direct access to.

The core idea

When you turn on Qyren, we automatically split your players into two groups:
  • Qyren group — 90% of players. They get personalized recommendations from Qyren.
  • Holdout group — 10% of players. They get your pre-Qyren offer logic (or a neutral default if you had no logic). They do not see Qyren recommendations.
The split is random and sticky per player. A player assigned to the holdout stays there. Both groups play the same game with the same offer catalog. The only difference is who picks which offer to show.

The math

Over a billing period (monthly), we compute:
  • ARPU_qyren = total revenue from Qyren-group players ÷ Qyren-group player count.
  • ARPU_holdout = total revenue from holdout-group players ÷ holdout-group player count.
  • Lift % = (ARPU_qyren − ARPU_holdout) / ARPU_holdout.
  • Incremental revenue = (ARPU_qyren − ARPU_holdout) × Qyren-group player count.
  • Lift fee = Incremental revenue × your lift rate (20% on Growth, 15% on Founding, negotiated on Scale).
If ARPU_qyren ≤ ARPU_holdout, the lift fee is $0. You only pay on proven uplift.

Worked example

A Growth-plan studio, one month:
  • Qyren group: 45,000 players, $18,900 revenue. ARPU_qyren = **$0.42**.
  • Holdout group: 5,000 players, $1,550 revenue. ARPU_holdout = **$0.31**.
Calculation:
  • Lift % = (0.42 − 0.31) / 0.31 = +35.5%.
  • Incremental per-player = $0.42 − $0.31 = $0.11.
  • Incremental revenue = $0.11 × 45,000 = **$4,950**.
  • Lift fee = $4,950 × 20% = **$990**.
That month’s invoice:
  • Growth base fee: $499.
  • Lift fee: $990.
  • Total: $1,489.
For that $1,489, the studio earned $4,950 in incremental revenue — a net gain of $3,461 they would not have had without Qyren. If they were on the Founding rate (15%), the lift fee would be $742.50 and total $991.50.

If lift is zero or negative

It happens — especially in the first 2–3 weeks while the engine is still learning. Your bill in those months is just the base fee ($499 on Growth, $249 on Founding). We don’t charge for losses. If lift stays non-positive for three consecutive months, we’ll reach out directly. Usually it means the integration is missing an event type (most often offer_impression), which prevents the engine from learning.

Why a holdout is mandatory

Without a holdout, we’d have to claim lift using modeling tricks — “we predict you would have earned X without us.” That’s not honest. With a holdout, the math is a simple subtraction anyone can audit. The cost to you: you’re leaving roughly 10% of your personalization upside on the table. At typical lift values, that’s a small price for being able to prove the number is real. If the holdout ever becomes an issue (e.g. for a specific A/B test), it can be paused for a defined window by support request — the paused window is excluded from billing that month.

Where to see this on the dashboard

The Billing tab shows:
  • Current-period ARPU for both groups, updated daily.
  • Projected lift fee for the month.
  • Historical monthly lift trends.
  • A downloadable CSV of the raw numbers so you can reproduce our math.
